Abstract: This Demonstration is a more detailed look at the 2008 SEG Presentation given in Las Vegas by Harvey Bear and Charles Murphey. 2D seismic data is heavily used today, but it is not always handled properly in the interpretation process. This presentation will open your eyes and show how to dramatically improve your current workflows. 2D Seismic Interpretation has been, and continues to be, a core workflow in Landmark's DecisionSpace environment. With the new functionality delivered in the R5000 Release, the classic 2D workflows are modernized and simplified. This demonstration shows the improvements in a 2D interpretation workflow that ties well control to 2D seismic, balances 2D seismic lines for amplitude, time and phase differences, interprets 2D horizons and faults, grids depth-converted horizons and plans wells. Come see how Landmark's DecisionSpace suite delivers the next-generation functionality that you need to easily and correctly handle 2D seismic interpretation. This presentation should appeal to geoscientists who will be working with 2D seismic in the new R5000 release. *********************************************************************************************************** We would like to express our appreciation to Landmark for providing the meeting room and the food. Abstract: Many of today's big plays, like subsalt, tight sand/shale and overthrust belts, require depth imaging to be conducted after conventional seismic processing. In complex geology, depth migration not only gives you a sharper image but also positions the reflectors correctly in space. In some cases, pre-stack time migration yields a coherent image but with the events (especially those with strong velocity contrasts) mis-positioned. There are known cases where reflectors dipping at 45 degrees are moved laterally by as much as ? mile between the time and depth images. Proper depth imaging corrections can prevent your wells from being drilled in the wrong location. The new Screen Imaging tools provide powerful solutions for both pre/post survey. Forward modeling and Illumination tools enable more sophisticated survey planning, which leads to better business justification and cost control of new survey projects. Post survey, Screen Imaging applications support the latest advancements in wide aperture geometry to define an accurate picture of the subsurface with better and faster depth imaging processing. Please come to this talk on Landmark's latest acquisition and see how the new Screen Imaging technology can help you. *********************************************************************************************************** We would like to express our appreciation to Landmark for providing the meeting room and the food. Abstract: The objectives in the upstream oil and gas business are to maximize hydrocarbon flow rates for each well and to recover the most reserves. But in order to meet these objectives, how can you best leverage the expertise of every member of your Asset Team? Your Team must be able to interactively share data and interpretation results throughout the life of a project, even if they work on different platforms such as Windows or Linux. This demonstration shows a real time integrated workflow with three domain specialists working on three different workstations. It begins with the Geologist making cross-sections in GeoGraphix Discovery on OpenWorks and continues with the Geophysicist performing seismic interpretation with Landmark's DecisionSpace applications and creating an initial well plan. The Drilling Engineer then optimizes the well plan using industry-standard tools in the Engineer's Desktop. The workflow loop is finally closed with the Geophysicist reviewing the Engineer's optimized well plan in 3D to ensure that the original drilling targets are penetrated. Please plan to attend this month's User Group Meeting and see how Landmark technology can enable collaboration that crosses disciplines and platforms, combining the expertise of your Team to maximize production and profitability. *********************************************************************************************************** We would like to express our appreciation to Landmark for providing the meeting room and the food. Abstract: Geospatial Integrity of Geosciences Software, also known as 'GIGS', is a joint industry project which is studying the geodetic tools and processes in a variety of commercial geoscience software packages. This JIP is scheduled for completion by March 2010. Jon Stigant of Devon Energy will provide an overview of the GIGS project and present the work completed to date, including application selection, analysis criteria and project deliverables. The deliverables of the JIP are: 1. Recommended best practices and guidelines for the geospatial component of geoscience software applications 2. A vendor self-certification review process that a G&G application developer can use to evaluate their product 3. A guide for a user to conduct a GIGS style review on their own 4. The Test Data Set and a document describing the use of the test data 5. A Training Forum The review of software applications is a means to an end. Selection of OW2003, Geoframe 4.3 and ArcGIS 9.3 was based on addressing key G&G applications that most companies were using at some level. The decision as to which of about 10 applications was made by vote of the GIGS JIP membership. If there are sufficient funds, we may also look at Petra and R5000. Vendor collaboration in the process was a key objective and was a criterion for the work in each case. Our Speaker: Jon Stigant has a B.Sc. in Engineering Science (Durham, UK). Jon spent 11 years in the Royal Navy as a hydrographic surveyor. In 1981 he joined Racal Decca surveys, Houston, followed by 2 years as Chief Surveyor at Wimpol Inc. In 1985, Jon joined Chevron Geosciences, Houston, as a field positioning specialist supporting geophysical surveys and rig positioning worldwide. Of note, Jon project managed a special project to prove the case for seismic data compression in 1995. After leaving Chevron in 1999, Jon worked as an independent consultant leading to a long-term contract with Ocean Energy in 2002/2003. In January 2004, Jon joined and currently serves Devon Energy as Supervisor of the Geodetic Operations team, providing support to operational and data functions across the E&P lifecycle. Jon is vice chairman of the JIP "Geospatial Integrity of Geophysical Software", past Chair of the APSG and the Hydrographic Society, and a member of the SEG and the SPE. *********************************************************************************************************** We would like to express our appreciation to Landmark for providing the meeting room and the food. Abstract: HALUG is pleased to bring you a live demonstration of the latest R5000 release of GeoProbe. This new version leverages the DecisionSpace environment to combine advanced big-data interpretation with other critical G&G workflows such as mapping & pre-stack analysis. You can see how the new real time interpretation updates from other DecisionSpace applications such as PowerView, as well as the classic SeisWorks software, deliver a new level of application interoperability. By focusing on the reduction of cycle-time by streamlining workflows and the user experience, GeoProbe has emerged with completely re-designed Object Managers and Dialog Boxes. The third major theme for this release is the inclusion of GIS data by supporting ESRI Shapefiles and geo-referenced TIFFs. The blending of multiple GIS data objects onto horizons now enables a number of new interpretation workflows. Please come and see the how the new GeoProbe can streamline and extend your workflows. *********************************************************************************************************** We would like to express our appreciation to Landmark for providing the meeting room and the food. Performance is blindingly fast by fully tapping the power of today's GPU (Graphics Processing Units) on graphics cards, while lowering the demand on the CPU and RAM memory. Increased capabilities of smartSECTION(r) and Discovery(tm) FrameBuilder(tm) technologies have also been addressed in this release to extend your geosteering workflows. Added functionality includes tools to correlate horizontal logs, display type logs along deviated wellbores, measure drilling distance and angles in cross sections, and enable real-time integration with seismic interpretation. On the geophysical side, SeisVision(tm) software has been enhanced with the addition of new icons to simplify seismic interpretation processes. New workflows include the ability to quickly convert isomap layers into horizons and to create velocity volumes for visualization and analysis. This presentation will consist of PowerPoint punctuated with live software demonstrations of some of the new features: GeoGraphix integration with GIS vendors and data GGX Discovery 3D - 3D visualization of GeoAtlas layers and FrameBuilder models. Geosteering tools in SmartSECTION - Keep your horizontals wells on track by correlating horizontal logs with vertical logs Adding a seismic backdrop to your geological cross section Visualizing velocity volumes in SeisVision sections and in crossplots Simplifying selected workflows with new icons that reduce button clicks So please plan on coming to this HALUG meeting and seeing what is new in GeoGraphix R5000.01.0. *********************************************************************************************************** We would like to express our appreciation to Landmark for providing the meeting room and the food. Abstract: R5000 is Landmark's latest synchronous release. This extensive release rolled out over 3 quarters starting in late 2007. It has now been fully available for over a year, with aggressive uptake among Landmark customers in their production environments. The Presenters for this talk will outline the upgrade process and share the best practices learned by Landmark Consultants as they have worked with users to upgrade to R5000. This presentation consists of 3 parts: 1) There is a clear definition of the "5 Steps" to upgrade from your current Landmark release to R5000. 2) Two case studies are used to show how an Independent Oil & Gas company working in the Mid-continent and an International Oil & Gas company Business Unit made their successful transitions quickly. 3) A live software demonstration illustrates the ease with which your projects can be upgraded to the R5000 release, giving your company access to the latest Landmark tools for real time collaborative workflows. So please plan on coming to this HALUG meeting or attending remotely, and find out how your Team can soon be using the latest Landmark technology available in R5000. Getting to R5000 is easier than you think! Abstract: Did you realize that StratAmp was not ported to R5000? Instead, PowerCalculator is Landmark's preferred utility for simple horizon calculations in both R5000 and R2003. However, that functionality is just the beginning! From horizon-based amplitude extractions through complex volumetric determinations using grids, PowerCalculator handles it all. This presentation introduces you to this versatile tool and shows how you can easily employ PowerCalculator to extend your current workflows. Demonstrated workflows are: 1) Creating a horizon-based amplitude extraction 2) Using formulas to derive complex horizon attributes 3) Calculating volumetrics from grids You can see how your work can be streamlined by using this single utility. And just like PowerView, the PowerCalculator utility is provided at no charge with SeisWorks and ZMAP. So please plan on coming to this HALUG meeting or attending remotely, and find out how your Team can be using the latest Landmark technology for horizon and grid calculations.
